lab<\/b><\/p><p>We focus on the experimental investigation of the electronic structure and properties of quantum matter and emergent quantum materials. Our aim is to understand the surprising behaviour of low dimensional and strongly interacting electronic systems, via direct, spectroscopic interrogation of the energy, momentum and spatial distributions of the electronic system. Our current focus includes:<\/p><p>\u2022 topological materials such as (magnetic) topological insulators, Dirac and Weyl semimetals<\/p><p>\u2022 unconventional superconductors such as the high-Tc cuprates (strange metal state)<\/p><p>\u2022 2D materials, also at the single monolayer limit<\/p><p>\u2022 transition metal oxides and their heterointerfaces<\/p><p>We study these using angle-resolved photoemission, soft X-ray absorption and dichroism, hard x-ray photoemission and coherent soft X-ray lensless imaging. The theory group run by Irene Aguilera in the ITFA part of IoP is also closely connected to this research.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>Research project 2: Dirac materials\u00a0<\/p><p>PhD researcher Chrystalla (Crystal) Knekna works with a focus on Dirac materials. Crystal is a shared PhD between the University of Groningen (in the group of Antonija Grubisic-Cabo) and QMat here at UvA-IoP. The focus of this work will be ARPES and other experiments on what are called strange metals and connection of these data to theories making use of holographic approaches by the PhD researcher Sebastian Bahamondes working in the groups of Koenraad Schalm [Leiden] and Henk Stoof [Utrecht].
